I love the irony between the gun and the peace sign; it really animates the present situation with our 'going to hell' world.
The shadowing over the face gives an anonymous impression and says that ‘this could be anyone, and possibly everyone’, which in turn goes with the ‘army-thug’ theme that you have going.
If that made absolutely no sense, it all translates into nice job (I just obviously have a bad habit of babbling.)
Very intimidating shot but very professional. You have thought out the lighting here and it really shows, your left with a quality photo. I like how the shadow of the fingers is cast across his stomach. What is it he has over his shoulder?
It certainly does look very thugish! I think the lighting in this is pretty good. The thing I like most about it is how there is a nice amount of darkness around the face which gives it a much more darker and bad look - it perfectly enhances the type of photo you were going for. On the other side, I'm not too keen on the shadow on the stomach because it seems to cut right across.
I like the angle that you chose because he's looking down which, to me, gives him a much more harder and menacing look. The centre composition works well as does the pose - it's perfect. I also like the negative space at the top as it just seems to fit really well with this shot. Regarding the underwear, I actually like them and think it ties in with the whole thug look. So personally, I would keep that part as it is. The belt does seem like it could have been sharper though.
The background... well I agree with `diamondie on that. It really does need to be completely solid. Having things showing is quite a distraction and makes it feel more like a snapshot although I know that it's not. Perhaps burning a little is an idea as well. But other than that, it's a pretty well done photo. Good work.
I'm normally not a big fan of pictures like this, but I have to admit it works here. I like the lighting and toning. The picture is a bit dark, but not overly so. I like the way the face is covered in shadow. It would probably be better if the hand didn't cast a shadow on the stomach.
The angle works great and the composition is looking rather nice as well. I have to say I don't like the way his underwear is showing and thus I would crop the bottom out, but it all comes down to personal preference and how you intended the photo.
I'd like the background better if it was completely solid with no corners or anything showing. You might be able to achieve that by levels/contrast tweaks or other editing. I'd also try a slight unsharp mask to sharpen the photo, but that might make the noise more visible.
